Who We Are

Small Angels Rescue is an independent, nonprofit, no-kill, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing and re-homing guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, chinchillas, and degus. A majority of our animals are rescued from animal shelters. We accept animals regardless of age, health, and temperament and believe that every animal deserves a loving home. We do not work with rabbits, ferrets, birds, reptiles, dogs, or cats.

Adopting A Friend

Small Angels' adoption process is straightforward. Adopters must fill out an adoption application. We then interview the applicant by phone or e-mail or in person to ensure that all of the applicant's questions are answered and that they have all of the correct supplies to properly care for the animal. At the time of adoption, adopters must sign an adoption contract.

Our Featured Pet...

Looking for a hamster? Don't go to the pet store! Small Angels recently took in 22 dwarf hamsters from a kill shelter. Two adult females then gave birth to 8 babies! Dwarf hammies are happiest with a buddy or two and must be adopted in same-gender pairs and trios. The adoption fee is $10 per hamster. If you can help by adopting hamsters, fostering them, or donating supplies like Carefresh or food, please contact Angela at hamsters@smallangelsrescue.org.

Come Visit Us!

Small Angels Rescue is based in Frederick, Maryland. We do not have a shelter.....yet! We use a network of foster homes to care for the animals until they find their forever homes. We have regular adoption events and can be found (almost) every Sunday at the Frederick Towne Mall from 1 to 3 p.m. Stop by to meet some of our adoptable angels and learn more about our organization. (Please note that not all of the animals are at every event, and we do not typically have guinea pigs and chinchillas at the mall adoption event.)

We're always looking for new ways and places to promote our cause. Perhaps you have a public location where we could hold an adoption event? Maybe you belong to an organization that would be interested in a talk by one of our volunteers? We have done presentations for a variety of groups including the YMCA, scouts, libraries, Mom's Clubs, church groups, and schools.

Please spread the word! Everyone knows they can adopt a dog or a cat, but most people have no idea that adoption is an option for pocket pets. Tell your friends and family members that they don't have to support the pet store sale of animals.

News

December 2006: Small Angels received a $2,000 spay/neuter grant from the Frederick County Humane Society. This will help us to reach our goal of reducing guinea pig overpopulation, by ensuring guinea pigs adopted from us cannot contribute to this overpopulation.
